Replica of a
Cumberland Sound (Baffin Island) Kayak
collected by J. Bernier in 1909

Arima describes this kayak type as being a "floe edge" vessel used to retrieve seals shot with rifles. It is a short kayak (for the region) at 13'2", and it is 25" wide. The frame is nailed together and the ribs are pieced together with straight sticks, giving it a completely flat bottom.
